METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION
MINUTES OF JUNE 15, 2006

Ron Justice called the meeting to order at 7:00
PM
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Paul Nesselroad: Expressed concern with the intersection at
West Run and Stewartstown Road.
Stated that two stop signs would not solve the problem that
occurs there. Suggested that rumble strips would warn
of a 4-way stop.
BILL RICE: Expressed concern with the growth in West
Run and the future traffic problems that will cause. Encourages
students to leave their vehicles at home.
SECRETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT:
Bob Bell reported a beginning
balance of $33,612.34, expenditures of $5860.81, leaving a balance of
$27,751.53. Chet will check on the $210 difference in the URS invoice. Frank
Scafella moved to approve the Secretary/Treasurer’s Report. Allen Sharp
seconded it. The motion unanimously passed.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT:
- Nancy
Walker has advised that a representative for the MPO will be selected at
their next School Board meeting;
- Ron
Justice has advised that two turning lanes are being considered for
Dorsey’s Knob;
- Bill
Byrne moved that Chet send a letter to the County
Assessor requesting him to
attend the next scheduled GIS Committee meeting. Allen Sharp seconded it.
The motion unanimously passed.
- Bob
Bell moved to approve the Unified Planning Work Program. Frank Scafella
seconded it. The motion unanimously passed.
DOH REPORT:
Don Williams (Local DOH) advised that two turning lanes will
be constructed at West Run to address the traffic problem. Funds have already
been approved.
DOH is presently working on Westover Hill to repair the
retaining wall. The sidewalks will be repaired by the City of Westover.
Paving will be done on the Hartman
Run Road and the Mileground. Repair work will also
be done on Hog Back curve.
City Council’s Meeting of the Whole on June 27, 2006 will deal with, and hopefully
resolve, the truck traffic problem through the city.
DAVID BRUFFY – TRANSIT AUTHORITY:
Presentation given by Mr. Bruffy: Advised ridership has
doubled in the past 5 years. Over 44,500 people were serviced last year and
over 700,000 miles were traveled. Additional bus service is being looked into
for Star City
and 705. Twelve new buses were purchased last year, at a cost of $165,000 each.
Discussed new service projects being considered.
DIRECTOR’S SALARY INCREASE: Bob Roberts moved to increase
the salary of the MPO Director to $58,000. Bill Byrne seconded it. The motion
unanimously passed.
